#VoicesofJAF – December 16th – Margo Ahrendsen
December 16, 2015 by Kat Krieger
“Our second son was born with autism and our third son was born with down syndrome and we decided from the very beginning that they were going to be raised as normal kids and have every advantage that there is available for any other kid.” – Margo Ahrendsen
After having one son born with Autism and another with Downs Syndrome, Margo Ahrendsen dedicated herself to making sure both would lead completely normal lives – and to the idea that all Iowans with special needs could too. As Board President and a 20+ year engaged volunteer at Camp Courageous, she is doing just that. Camp Courageous serves more than 7,000 Iowans with special needs a year, up from mere hundreds when Margo began her work there. With Margo’s leadership, today Camp Courageous is Iowa’s largest year-round recreational and respite care facility for individuals with disabilities of all ages.
Help us share more stories like Margo and empower those across the country helping everyone live normal lives.
