#VoicesofJAF – December 24th – Jazzy Butler

“Our main goal is to talk about controversial things like race, sexuality, religion. I’m really passionate about it. There is a lot of inequality that happens that we don’t even really realize — It’s kinda hidden.” – Jazzy Butler

The mission of the Shakopee High School’s Leaders in Education and Diversity (LEAD) is to celebrate and educate others about diversity with a vision of a united school and community that welcomes and supports everyone. This year, LEAD collected over 5,100 food and clothing items for the Salvation Army, wrote and performed a play based on their own experiences to raise awareness about social issues and hosted a cultural fashion show and a talent show/competition. Having earned the Jefferson Awards SIA Minneapolis Regional Award in both 2014 and 2015, the team was inducted into the SIA Ambassador level at National Ceremony this June.

Help us tell more stories like Jazzy’s and empower students across the country to address inequality.
