What I learned from LEAD360

Can one kid’s big idea change the world? This was a question I asked myself last spring when I submitted my idea, Score On Hunger, to the Jefferson Awards Foundation’s LEAD360 competition. I’m so glad I submitted my idea, because my big idea was chosen as the winner!
The answer to my question was YES! One big idea can change the world, and I learned that through my experience with LEAD360! With the help from LEAD360 program’s mentorship, leadership and national exposure, Score On Hunger has generated donations of over 315,000 food items equating to over $950,000 in donations to hunger fighting charities across the nation. A big idea made maximum impact!
The LEAD360 program has meant a lot to me this past year. Beyond the impact numbers, I have learned leadership skills, to reach out to my local partners and organizations, and also beyond my community. Lead360 helped me leverage my social media to increase exposure of my project and inspire youth to take the initiative and act. My favorite part of working with LEAD360 was knowing I had the resource network of help and also the network of working with other youth. I learned that with the help from others, a big idea could become reality and inspire others to become doers in their communities too.
