Statement on Today’s Federal Budget Proposal

The Jefferson Awards Foundation strongly opposes the administration’s proposed cuts to public service programs and subsidized meals for children. Public service is foundational to being an American. Through 45 years of experience, we know public service provides an incredible dual impact: on communities and on the individuals who serve. It delivers tangible leadership and engagement skills that translate to college and career success – generating improved outcomes for low-income youth and underserved communities. The Corporation for National and Community Service upholds our nation’s commitment to service and deserves full support from this administration. Subsidized meal programs are fundamental to education. Hungry kids can neither focus nor learn, and depriving millions of what could be their only meal on any given day will impede any effort to improve our education system. We strongly urge Congress to oppose all cuts to these vital programs.
